This book is written for anyone, of any age, who is raising a child. Unlike other undertakings in life, there are no re-do’s when it comes to raising a child. The sensitive years (ages 0-6) are developmentally crucial because they are layered with stages of learning where the order matters, and the effects are permanently written in the brain. Developmental psychologists, child psychologists, and family counselors are consistently validating the theory that our fears, anxieties, jealousies, insecurities, and problems in our relationships, are seeds that were planted, watered, and took root, in our childhood.

Most caregivers to children would agree that parenting is not easy!  For some, it is life’s most difficult challenge, and yet it is also considered one of life’s greatest joys.  The fulfillment of becoming a parent can gives us purpose.  Raising better humans can provide us hope we are leaving something better for the future.  We would like to believe our children can help make the world a better place for their children and so on, leading to generational, lasting changes.

The idea of raising better humans is a conscious effort to implement a better designed system to yield a better outcome. The first part of designing a better parenting system is understanding that, ultimately, we cannot control children but we can control their environment.  This book is a blueprint for a system to take control of your child's environment.  We use seven (7) concepts and found them to be fruitful.  We also created a children’s book to help adults teach the seven (7) concepts to children. Many of us were raised in a childhood where our caregivers and adults focused on trying to control our behaviors rather than controlling our environment.  Beginning to reverse this cycle with this seemingly small shift in thinking is the cornerstone for raising better humans and the first step in changing your mindset.  When I say parent in this book, I am referring to anyone who is raising a child.

As the saying goes...I always knew I was different than most birds. I looked at problems differently. I perceived the world around me through a unique lens, and my personal relationships, to this day, are strong and long lasting.

I could not quite articulate the eagle’s way of life…until now.

This book is a comparison to the life of a bald eagle and the characteristics of highly effective leaders. The purpose in penning this work is to share and encourage seasoned bald eagles, which like me, could not quite articulate their life’s most inner workings, and to identify and guide eaglets (young bald eagles), of all ages, through their journey of becoming an elder seasoned bald eagle to boot.  And as a bonus, this is for those who have and/or have had the fortune to be led by bald eagles, that they would grow to understand eagle leadership better. 

Understanding those that lead us in more depth, develops consequential leaders and subsequently loyal followers.

The chapters are divided into three bits: a pithy chapter title (to help you remember the concept), bald eagle trivia (for fun and to support the contrast), and most importantly, the leadership parallels you can apply to your own leadership style.

As a wife, mom, counselor, and friend, I have experienced grief like many of us and have struggled to know how to handle steps forward.  Most likely, you never considered having to purchase this to help a child you love through this difficult time, but I am hopeful it can bring some peace and comfort to your situation. As a caregiver of a child who is dealing with loss, you have been put into a knowingly difficult position, and one where you may be grieving yourself.  This guide will provide some activities and thoughtful ideas to help you and your child, activities I have personally used to help with my own grief and with children and students who have suffered loss.
